Jordan, I do know what that's like, to really want to go after something you love, and all I can say is GO FOR IT. You're single, you have no dependents, you have little to lose, something most people don't have in their lives. You know you have the eye! I would be thrilled to see you follow your dream of showing your photographic vision to the world.

I am so happy you got to expeirence the "real" Colombia and the warm, wonderful people. I lived in Bogota teaching english for one year and absolutley loved it. I hope to return soon. I have been to Tequendama Falls three times and got some great shots also, but none from the perspective on your calender shot...FANTASTIC! (now my wallpaper).

God luck to you and take care,

I've had the exact same experience with Aperture and have moved over to Light Room. After using Aperture for 10 months I've really grown to like the interface and workflow as well as system integration with OS X. My switch to Light Room just over a month ago was almost accidental and certainly not planned. After trying out AP 2 I've confirmed my decision to stay with LR.

I really wish Apple would reconsider its decision to rely so heavily on the GPU for the heavy lifting in Aperture. I think it was a big mistake and from what I'm reading around the web many others feel the same way.

After a month with LR I'm increasingly happy with it and the LR community is excellent bonus.

Very well reasoned and I particularly like the communication part:Apple hasn't said a thing to support folks who adopted Aperture and have been hanging out to dry.

But, like you, after I tried Lightroom I was impressed with its snappiness on my computer and have stuck with it. I put my thinking on paper so to speak here: Aperture, Lightroom and Me.

Nope, Aperture actually looks upon DNG's like a illegitimate child...Only thing that works slightly is the XMP sidecard, which even then only gives me some keywords.

Jordan,
seems like the MAC OS upgrades have what windows need to get working as well, that upgrading an OS don't mean whiping the harddrive. That is so annoying, but then again, I would probably still be doing backups before daring to install a new OS anyway =)
great to hear your thoughts of the new system, eventhough I'm not a MAC user and I know you are biased haha Well done, mate!
Cheers,
//Sven
