Recently I have been on the search for a decent point & shoot camera that I can carry around with me all the time. The biggest problem with this that I am finding is the ability to find the right requirements while sacrificing others.
One camera that has my attention is the Canon Powershot G9. This has an impressive 12MP sensor, 35-210MM zoom, F2.8-4.8 aperture and touts an impressive aluminum body.

This camera is basically a revision of the G7 which got a lot of attention for the details that were left out of it, for example the ability to shoot in RAW. Another great feature is the Digic III processor which has face recognition (I’ve tried it out, it actually works!) and a better image processor. One downer is the larger body size. With the aluminum body comes extra weight and in turn as well it has a bigger body.
Where to buy this bad boy? Well the worst thing you could do as a Canadian these days is buy it from a Canadian retailer. I have priced it out that it is a shockingly $137 cheaper from a US retailer. Suffice to say, I won’t be buying north of the border anytime soon.
I do have a couple other cameras on the list, but the G9 has really caught my attention. Anyone have any recommendations on a great point & shoot?
