Kaleo
With the Kaleo program comes lots of great adventures. This past week we spent 4 days on the Pacific Swift. A 110′ tall ship owned by the S.A.L.T.S. organization. We joined the crew of 6 for the adventure around the Gulf Islands of Vancouver Island. We become the crew with the main crew being our guides and watch officers.

This is one of the those moments where you soak in every minute of it. Realizing that not everyone has a chance to be able to sail a ship of this size and work in such a close quarter. Along with being a great building place for the Kaleo community, it has some amazing photographic opportunities. The moment that stuck out in my head was during our last evening sailing. It had been raining earlier that day and we were all a little tired and cold. But the clouds decided to part a bit to show off this amazing sunset. Everyone was awestruck by it. It simply got better and better and better.

I will be updating the Kaleo portfolio over the next couple of days with some of the best from the recent sailing trip. So stay tuned for that!

Kaleo
It’s been a while since there has been time for me to sit down and do some activity on the blog. With the start of Kaleo and numerous other things on the list, the blog has taken the back seat.
So here’s some news as to what has been happening as of late…
Yesterday evening I just got back from a 3 day backpacking trip that took us form sea level to 6830 feet atop of Mt. Albert Edward on Vancouver Island. It was a great trip, with the bonding of 26 students and 4 leaders. The weather was pretty fair with only a few moments of rain and snow. The picture above is of Circlet Lake at the foot of Mt. Albert Edward where we camped for 2 nights.
As well within the last week I have also been finding times to organize and edit the summer pictures so we can whisk them away to the designer for the 2008 Qwanoes Brochure. There will also be some redesigns happening to qwanoes.ca within the following months which will debut some of the photos from this past summer as well. So stay tuned for that!
Blog Template Issues:
As many of you have probably noticed the blog is a bit disorganized as of late. Why that is, I have no idea. There seems to be some back-end issue with Typepad at the moment. So please just be patient while I try and figure it all out. In the mean time if you were wanting to find the portfolios / links just scroll to the bottom of the page.
Update:
Got a very quick response back from Typepad and got it all fixed!

Web/Tech
It’s been a long process to finally decide to take the dive into the somewhat “exclusive club”, but I did it. Considering I have payed a yearly fee to be apart of my Canadian Ski Instructors Alliance for the past 5 years, it put it into perspective. Being connected into a great group of professionals, training, discounts and a couple magazines to boot. I hope to put up a portfolio on the NAPP members website within the next couple of weeks. Stay tuned for that!

Smell that? Ahhh, yes that’s the smell of the prairies, the smell of no stresses, concerns or problems! I’ve come to my parents place to spend a week of holidays relaxing before I head back out to Vancouver Island for the next round of work. It’s been an interesting experience just sitting down and doing nothing for a week (well not exactly nothing - had to get that Class 4 license).
While doing nothing I’ve been reading a lot of different photo websites and catching up on all the Mac rumor news and that amazing iPod Touch! Amongst other things, I’ve been directed to two different freelance/entreprenuer websites that deal directly with photography. While both are very similar in their nature, they are also very different.
Freelance Switch - If you’re a Freelancer using a Mac, this is a great resource with lots of amazing tips.
Photopreneur - If you want the down and dirty version of the photo freelance world, this has all the best tips in to-do’s and not-to-do’s.
Well this was fun, but I need to start getting my 30D ready to be shipped to Canon to see if this beast can be fixed. If not…I just won’t think about that yet.
PS. Yes the website is different (yet again)! What can I say, I’m never really satisfied. Always trying to find something better.
